Getting To Know Indian Temples - Part 2

In the series of articles on temples of India, here is part second with some information about two more important Indian temples.

Dwarkadhish Temple - The Dwarkadhish temple is located in the town of Dwarka in Jamnagar district in the Indian state of Gujarat on the west coast. It is one of the most ancient temples in India and boasts of classic architecture. It is one of the important places of worship for Hindus. The temple is dedicated to Dwarkadhish (lord of Dwarka) Lord Krishna. Dwarka town was founded thousands of years ago as the capital of lord Krishna according to the Mahabharata. The temple was built in the 16th century. It is widely believed that the ancient Dwarka town founded by lord is submerged in the sea. The city was created by lord Vishwakarma - the god of architecture.

It is a famous Hindu temple which is dedicated to lord Jagannath, an incarnation of lord Krishna, Balbhadra and goddess Subhadra. Jagannath temple is one of the major pilgrimage places in India. It is a part of Char (four) Dham pilgrimage. The temple was built in 12th century by Raja Ananta Varman Chodaganga Dev. The famous Rath Yatra or chariot festival happens every year and is a very popular event. In the Rath Yatra, the statue of the 3 gods, lord Jagannath, Balbhadra, and Subhdra are taken out in the streets of Puri in huge decorated chariots in a procession. People come from far and wide to view this spectacle.
